Trust Your Elders

Price: $7.99

Trust Your Elders is the oldest idea in this lineup — the elderberry, echinacea, and ginger that show up in kitchen herbalism across Europe, North America, and half the world besides, and have for a very long time.

Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) has been made into syrups, cordials, and wines across Europe since at least the Middle Ages; the elder tree was considered protective enough that some folk traditions held you should ask its permission before cutting one. Echinacea purpurea is a North American prairie coneflower, used by Plains peoples for generations before it entered European herbals in the 1800s. Ginger needs no introduction and gives the blend its bite.

Manuka and propolis infused raw honey is the finish — manuka from New Zealand's Leptospermum scrub, propolis the resin bees gather from tree buds to seal their hive. Both are bee products with their own long histories, and both bring a darker, more resinous character that suits the elderberry.

Caffeine-free. Contains bee products — see label.

Darker and resinous, with more character than a table honey. Manuka from New Zealand scrubland, propolis from the hive itself.

Meet the Founder

Tea was always something I enjoyed making since a teen. What got me into creating a brand around iced tea was back in 2024 when my doctor diagnosed me with pre-diabetes. Then I came across the keto diet after hearing how much it helped to heal people but when I started going around my community for a simple meal or snack I realized where the problem stemmed from.

Frequently asked question

Not yet. Right now you can find us here and at pop-ups around Brooklyn — follow @herbalgenz for locations. We're working toward shelves, and the fastest way to get us there is people asking their local shop for us. If you own a store or know one that should carry us, get in touch.

Three of the six. Summer Sorrel, Trust Your Elders, and Sip and Slump have no caffeine at all — they're built entirely from herbs and flowers rather than tea leaves. The other three sit around 30mg per can, about a third of a coffee, and it's all naturally occurring.

Raw honey in every can which is equivalent to 7 grams of sugar, and that's all of it. No cane sugar, no high-fructose corn syrup, no artificial sweeteners. For comparison, most bottled iced teas run 25–35 grams and a lot of energy drinks are higher. Ours is lightly sweetened on purpose; the herbs are supposed to be the point.
